SBA and OPA assays

The serum bactericidal assay (SBA) and opsonophagocytic assays (OPA) are important tools used for the evaluation of novel vaccines. The end-point of these assays is enumeration of bacterial colonies cultured in appropriate culture media. Perceptive Instruments has supplied the Sorcerer Colony Counter to many laboratories engaged in conducting such assays around the world.

Sorcerer Image Analysis System

Colony Counting for vaccine assays

The Sorcerer Image Analysis system coupled to our purpose-built illumination stand provides the ideal system for bacterial enumeration for SBA and OPA vaccine assays. Sorcerer rapidly counts bacterial colonies over the surface of circular culture plates or within individual 'lanes in the 'tilt' version of these assays. Special colony separation algorithms together with optimal illumination techniques ensure accurate enumeration even where there are many overlapping colonies.

Colony counts are automatically transferred to an open Excel workbook where customised data processing is performed.

Sorcerer is designed to conform to Good Laboratory Practice and link to the System Access Manager to provide compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 final rule on electronic records and signatures.
